I attended a training you gave on The Culture Map and thought it was fantastic. I’m British and am soon to join a newly created team with a mix of UK/Finnish/French.

I would love to map out the different countries but struggled to find Finland on all your scales. Do you have these for all? If not what would you advise? I’m not convinced Sweden is an ideal proxy as stereotypically Fins tell me they are quite different.

Thanks for your advice.

I saw you speak at the GLS last week. Thank you for an entertaining and informative time! I am very interested in how to apply the Culture Map to the ethnic and cultural differences within working teams right here in the U.S. I would like to apply the 8 dimensions to developing a better understanding of our backgrounds, diversity, etc. Do you have any work in this?

Comment on Leading Across Borders Takes More than A Multi-cultural Background by Cynthia Bell https://erinmeyer.com/leading-across-borders-takes-more-than-a-multi-cultural-background/#comment-108319 Sun, 14 Aug 2016 05:06:54 +0000 http://dev.erinmeyer.com/?p=250#comment-108319 Your stories are fascinating, I am a Costa Rican teacher working in Wisconsin, USA in a Dual language program and the conversations about cultural differences in the staff, the students and the parents are always in the table. It could be challenging to coach multicultural groups and your work has been bringing light to this important issue. Thanks!

Comment on One Reason Cross-Cultural Small Talk Is So Tricky by Doris Van Byssum https://erinmeyer.com/one-reason-cross-cultural-small-talk-is-so-tricky/#comment-108067 Fri, 12 Aug 2016 23:50:25 +0000 http://dev.erinmeyer.com/?p=214#comment-108067 I heard you speak at Willow today – fabulous!!!!

You used 2 words that I could not write down fast enough. It was a French word for ‘not what I said but what I meant’ and a Japanese word for ‘someone unable to read the atmosphere’.

Can you please tell me the words?

This whole discussion is very informative and exciting. Was just wondering, what are your thoughts about the conflict management model? I’ve been going through several of your interviews and talks, just wondering which one of the 5 strategies (Competing, Collaborating, Compromising, Avoiding, Accommodating) would be most likely to be adopted by countries like France, Japan and USA?
Do you think there’s a way to link this model to Hofstede diemnsions or high/low context communication?
